Alberta Donaldson was born to the late Irene and Henry Donaldson on June 21, 1931 in Anderson, South Carolina, where she spent 10 years of her life, living with her grandmother.

A Time to Learn…She attended Read Street Elementary in Anderson, SC while living with her grandmother.  She moved to West Orange, New Jersey to live with her parents and attended Fairmount School.  After moving to East Orange, New Jersey, she attended Vernal L. Davis (VLD) Junior High School.  After completing her tenure at VLD Junior High School, Alberta attended Bordentown Training School in Bordentown, New Jersey and lived on campus.  She was on the basketball team and a cheerleader/majorette.  She graduated from Bordentown in 1951.  She attended Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas for two years, majoring in History and minoring in sociology.  She was a member of the debate team and a cheerleader.  She represented the Social Science Department.  Mary Allen College was a religious college and she developed lifelong relationships while there.  After leaving Mary Allen College, Alberta attended Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia for one year.

A Time to Love…Alberta and Middie met in Hampton, Virginia at Hampton Institute.  They dated for two years and were married in 1954 at Mount Olive Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey with a reception in her parents' back yard.  They were blessed beyond measure.  Alberta and Middie made their home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and were blessed with two handsome sons; Middie David, III and Michael Anthony.

A Time to Work…Alberta was a homemaker until her sons started school.  She worked at Kimberly Park Elementary School as a substitute teacher.  Later she began working for Mel Brook Fashion Shop as Head Sales Lady.  Sheworked for Arcade Dress Shoppe as well.  Alberta returned to East Orange, New Jersey where she obtained a job with the School Board of Education of East Orange, New Jersey as a custodian at her former junior high school.  She remained at VLD for nine years and was transferred to Nassau School.  She was affectionately called, "Grand Mom" and was named Custodian of the year during her five years at Nassau School.  Alberta retired from East Orange School Board of Education in 1993, receiving her Black Seal License.

A Time to Serve…Alberta attended Trinity Baptist Church in Anderson, SC and was baptized at the age of nine.  During her early teenage years, she joined Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend L.A. Williams.  At Mount Olive, she joined the Sunday School class, a member of the youth choir, Junior Missionary group and Baptist Training Union (BTU). She loved her church and to fellowship.  After returning back to East Orange, Alberta reconnected with Mount Olive Baptist Church and began working with the missionary group, pastor's aid, and hospitality social where she was the president for four years.  She enjoyed greeting new members and visiting the sick and shut in members as well.  While living in Winston Salem, NC with her husband Middie, she joined New Bethel Baptist Church.  At New Bethel, Alberta was a member of the young adult missionary society and served as the president.  She was also a member of the young adult choir and was a Sunday School teacher.  She acquired an abundance of friends while in Winston-Salem and they organized a club called "The Unique's" and Alberta served as the president.  Alberta also attended Faith Temple for sixteen years and took part in the Pastor's Aide, Missionary, and Hospitality ministries and the Senior's Club.  While living in New Jersey as a Senior, at 545 Park Avenue, she was the President of the Tenant Association.  In 2008, Alberta moved to Spencer, North Carolina.  She was asked to visit Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church by Margaret Jones and fell in love with this Bethel place.  She began working in the church in various ministries: the Willing Workers Missionary Society, Pastor's Aide, Senior Choir, Sunday school and Bible Study Member.  She won the Queen of the Willing Worker's Missionary Ministry Club.  She also joined the Meridian Chapter #308 Order of the Eastern Stars, the Daughters of Isis Sethos Court #105, and the Golden Circle of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  She later joined the Order of Eastern Star Pearl White Chapter #180 of Spencer, North Carolina.  She enjoyed working faithfully in her clubs and organizations. Alberta also connected with her son and daughter-in-law's church in West Columbia, South Carolina.  Platt Springs Baptist Church enjoyed her presence in their services during her visits.  Her encouraging words to the youth, single, and marriage ministries brought joy to all who were blessed to hear her speak.

A Time to Remember…Alberta knew that God has blessed her in many ways.  No matter where she moved, God sent angels ahead of her to make life easy and beautiful.  This is what she wants for her sons and family.  Get right with God and thank you God for Jesus. Her favorite scripture was Psalm: 46.

A Time to Mourn…Alberta Donaldson Glymph lived a full and complete life and leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her passing, her sons: Michael Anthony Glymph of Spencer, North Carolina and Middie David III (Linda) Glymph of Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren: Stacey (Elisha) Percell of Augusta, Georgia, Michael Glymph, Jr. of Spencer, North Carolina, M. David Glymph, IV of Columbia, South Carolina, and Shawn Glymph of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Nine great-grandchildren: Aniyah, Caleb, Ethan, Matthew, Sanaa, Joshua, Brooklyn, Jaiden, and Kylnn; a Special Sister In Love: Arlene Glymph; Special Nephew: Danny Mann; Goddaughters: Richelle Gay, Cassandra Wiggins, Jacqueline Greadington, and Patricia Hudson; Godsons: Nickolas Wiggins, Gregory Wiggins, Deacon Tim Walker, Deacon Alfred McBride, and Terrell Hudson; God-sisters: Frenchie Edmonson, Diana Satterfield White, and Alice Hobbs; Dedicated Neighbor and Friend: Margaret C. Jones, The "Golden Girls": Mary Cooper, Elfrancis Ellis, Naomi Jones  a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services Saturday October 26, at 12:00 noon Shady Grove Baptist Church burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive one hour prior to service. Public viewing  Friday 11:00 - 5:00 p.m.
