Alma Charleston Corpening, 78, was born to the late John Lewis and Edna Morrow Charleston in Rowan County on September 25, 1943, and took flight to her new and eternal home Thursday, November 4, 2021. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School in East Spencer, class of 1962; and was last employed with PPG Industries where she then retired. During her retirement she began delivering the Salisbury Post and became affectionately known in the community as "The Paper Lady". Alma attended AME Zion Church, Salisbury where she served as a member. Alma loved family and enjoyed traveling; she found great passion in planning, organizing, and attending the Newby, Randle, Craig family reunion annually. Family ties in the home were bonded with love, caring, sharing, respect and fellowship. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Bernard Charleston, brothers Thomas Morrow Charleston, Larry "Bay" Charleston; an uncle reared in the home as a sibling, Willie Dan Charleston, and grandson Antione Price. She leaves to mourn her loss, however, cherish her memories, a loving husband, Mr. Donald E. Corpening, daughter Tammy Woods (Michael) Salisbury, NC; a grandson reared in the home, Rashaun Lester; granddaughters, Ashley Ford, Ternisha Charleston and Terri Charleston of Salisbury, NC, Alma Ford Hamilton (Courtney) Richmond, VA and Tierra Parsons, Charlotte, NC; Sisters, Ada Patterson, Salisbury, NC, and Sallie Pearson (Jesse), Granite Quarry, NC. Brothers, John E. Charleston, Granite Quarry, NC, and Arnold Charleston Sr. Charlotte, NC. A special nephew she referenced as her brother, Donnie Charleston (Renee), Atlanta Ga. Sister in laws, Melissa Corpening, East Spencer, NC, and Deborah (Gregory) Squires, Winston-Salem, NC; brother in laws, Calvin Corpening, Detroit Michigan, Murphy (Sharon) Corpening Sr. and Ronald Corpening of Salisbury, NC; Seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be Tuesday November 9, 12:00 p.m. at Rowan Funeral Services, burial will follow at Providence A.M. E. Zion Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service
