Obituary

Mr. Arnold Bernard Charleston, age 85, formally of Granite Quarry, NC entered into the presence of the Lord, Friday, March 13, 2026 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte NC. Arnold, affectionately known to many as "Honey" passed peacefully surrounded by his caring and devoted family. Born July 19, 1940 in Rowan County, NC, he was the third child of the late John Lewis and Edna Morrow Charleston.


Arnold was a 1959 graduate of Dunbar High School in East Spencer, NC and matriculated to Livingstone College where he met and married his college sweetheart and the love of his life, the late Joyce Turner Charleston. After 3 years of college he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. Arnold proudly served his country from 1963 to 1965. He honorably served as an Infantryman and achieved the rank of Private First Class. He was awarded the Army Expert Weapons Qualification Badge for M60 Machine Gun. Following his military service, Arnold returned to Livingstone College and completed his B.S.Degree in Biology in 1967. A gifted Botanist with an extraordinary green thumb, he had a passion and talent for growing just about anything! Arnold relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1974, and began a successful career as a Quality Control Engineer for The General Tire & Rubber Company for many years. He later began working for Rockwell International as a Quality Control Engineer until retirement.


He was a member of White Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, Granite Quarry, NC during his formative years and later attended Little Rock A.M.E Zion Church, Charlotte, NC.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Arnold "PeeWee" Bernado Charleston. Siblings; Thomas "Thom" Charleston, Larry "Bae" Charleston, Alma Corpening, and Ada Ruth Patterson; Uncles and aunt reared in the home as siblings; Capers Charleston, Willie Dan Charleston and Beulah "Bama" Carrington. A cousin, Thomas "Bruh" Lowe who was like a brother.


He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Anita (Frank) Little, Mooresville, NC, Grandsons; Arnold "Bart" Charleston III of the home, Justin Little, Mooresville, NC., Granddaughters; Ruby Charleston, Charlotte, NC., Miracle Howard, Louisville, KY., Lauren Little and Maya Little, Mooresville, NC, Sister; Sallie C. Pearson, Atlanta, GA. Brother; John E. Charleston, Granite Quarry, NC, A nephew reared in the home; Donnie Charleston (Renee), Atlanta, GA., Aunt; Mrs. Willis Charleston, Salisbury, NC., and devoted Brother-In-Law and friend; Donald Corpening, Spencer, NC., Six great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Funeral Services Tuesday March 24, at 12:30 p.m. Rowan Funeral Services Chapel . Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service. Burial : Salisbury National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.. Public viewing Monday 11:00 - 5:00 p.m.
