Charles Irvin "Buster" Blakeney born August 22, 1949, in Rowan County to James and Lillie Mae Blakeney departed his life on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Charles was a graduate of Price High School and was drafted into the United States Army shortly after graduation. After working many years at Cannon Mills, Charles was hired at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury where he labored until retirement. Charles enjoyed fishing and enjoyed spiritual hymns. He relished being the song leader at Thomas Street of Christ and put his heart and soul into his singing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Blakeney and Michael Blakeney, and a sister Patricia Mitchell. Those left to cherish dearly loving and fond memories are his wife of fifty years, Hattie Armstrong Blakeney, sons: Staff Sergeant Derrick Armstrong, Lester Blakeney, daughters, Jamie Blakeney, Sharlene Blakeney and Chamoine Blakeney, brothers: Johnny (Marcella) Blakeney, and James (Rita) Blakeney. Sisters: Betty (Calvin) Jackson, and Ellen Blakeney, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews. Service: Funeral Services Tuesday, September 13, 12:30 p.m. Rowan Funeral Services Chapel burial will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Family visitation will be 30 minutes prior to service. Public viewing Monday 10:30- 5:30 p.m. Rowan Funeral Services is assisting the Blakeney family.
