Melvin "Pete" Chalk, 89, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Atrium Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC and was born to the late Wilks and Laura Rice Chalk on June 28, 1932 in Rowan County. Mr. Chalk retired as a Supervisor for Taylor Clay Brick Yard and worked part-time after retirement with Pizza Hut. He was an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Telcare, Men's, Music, Sunday School and Christian Education, Pastor's Aide, Missionary, Crisis, Visitation, and HIV/AIDS Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents and thirteen siblings and his two spouses Wilma Reid Chalk and Jessie Vinson Chalk, and son Dwayne Chalk. He is survived by his sons; Michael Chalk (Brenda), Tony Chalk (Cheryl), Terry Chalk (Rosa), stepsons; Roy Vinson (Shirley), Michael Vinson (Teresa), daughters; Shelia McCaskill, Dianne Guions (Warren "Tim") Laura Chalk, Ethel Vinson Chalk, thirty-nine grandchildren, one hundred and seven great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be Monday, August 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Rowan Funeral Services Chapel; burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Public viewing 1:30 5:00 p.m. Rowan Funeral Services is assisting the Chalk family .
