Obituary

Rev. Louis Turner left for his eternal home on April 3, 2022, at Novant Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. He was born on March 8, 1942, to the late Margaret Turner and Calvester Turner in Salisbury, NC. From a young age, Rev. Turner loved to sing. He was a part of a quartet in his early years. He performed often during his years as a soloist. He was often requested to sing the song "Sending Up My Timber". Rev. Turner started in ministry at the age of 18. He preached the word of God for over 50 years. He was mentored and was a former associate pastor under the Rev. John G. Gaston at his home church, Shady Grove Baptist Church. He served as the pastor for the following churches throughout his life: New Testament Church of God, Lowell NC; New Testament Church of God, Salisbury NC; Brown New Calvary Baptist Church, Thomasville, NC; and Antioch Baptist Church, Granite Quarry, NC. He assisted at other churches when needed in his later years. He was a former member of the Minister's Alliance. Rev Turner was educated at Dunbar High School in East Spencer, NC. He was a graduate of Shaw University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served as an Alderman for the town of East Spencer. He was a retiree of Freightliner in Cleveland, NC. Rev. Turner was preceded in death by his brother Calvin Turner. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annie L. Turner, son Louis Turner Jr.(Renee) of Bessemer City, NC; daughter Shelia Woods of Greeneville, SC; daughter Audrey Sims of Charlotte, NC; son Steven Turner of Salisbury, NC and daughter Marcella Greene(Howard) of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral Saturday, April 9, at 12:00 p.m. Burial Rowan Memorial Park. Visitation 11:00 a.m., Bishop Derek Kelly, Eulogist.
