On November 21, 1940, John and Edna Dasent of Cox Village, Nevis, welcomed their third child, Viola Brookes into the world. Viola completed her early years of education in Nevis, and migrated to England at the age of 20, during the historical Wind Rush Era when Caribbean people were moving to the United Kingdom by boat in search of new opportunities. Among her family, Viola was affectionately called "Vi" or "Baby Sister."

In England, Viola would reunite with her two maternal aunts and an uncle. There she would further pursue her education and work for some time as a nurse. And it was in England that a petite Viola, not quite 5 feet, would meet the love of her life, a tall six-foot plus, handsome Lloyd Brookes from Gingerland, Nevis. Their romance soon led to him asking for her hand in marriage, and in 1965, they were united in holy matrimony. A love story that lasted over 50 years and a union that was blessed with two loving children, Raymond and Violet.

After moving back to Nevis in 1967, Viola and her two young children, spent a few years there before her husband who had migrated to St. Croix to pursue his lifelong career intelecommunications, relocated the family to join him. Viola embraced her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with grace and dedication. She lovingly cared for her husband, raised their children, and treasured every moment spent helping to raise her grandson, Shawn.

Throughout the years she worked at Timex Factory and later managed her husband's telecommunications consulting business. She subsequently worked at Mr. Dollar and later dedicated many years of service to the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Human Services on St. Croix until her retirement. The quiet strength behind her family, she was a loving and committed wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother, cherished sister, warm-hearted aunt, and dependable friend.

During her husband's illness, she never left his side and lovingly cared for him until his passing in 2014. Two years later, she relocated to North Carolina to live withher son. Viola was a patient listener. Family and friends would always go to for advice or just to have someone who will listen, and you could be assured your secret was safe with her. Her love was always evident through her actions. he made weekly calls to the family, checking in to make sure everyone was alright. An exceptional cook, her children marveled at how she always cooked their favorite foods, and everyone always looked forward to having her host Thanksgiving which was among the family gatherings she rotated with her closest sister Missfine. Theirs was a bond that was almost inseparable. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life. No matter the situation, her advice was always to: "just pray about it."

In St. Croix, she faithfully served at St. Lukes AME church as a stewardess, usher, and member of the Women's Auxiliary. Her quiet spirit reflected Christ's love in everything she did -there was hardly a conversation without her testifying about her love for God or his grace towards her. She was the peacemaker in the family and not one for conflicts, instead her calming words would often be, "Oh well, God is love." Small in stature, but she was a tower of strength and the epitome of resilience, always finding a way to overcome difficulties. She especially exhibited her strength during her illness, never complaining, but always responding when asked how she was, with the words: 'I'm alright." And through her grit and determination, she fought hard to be alright.

On July 24, 2026, Viola E. Brookes transitioned from her earthly life. Her legacy of love, peace, strength, unwavering faith in God, and the memories we shared, will remain our
guiding light. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and we are comforted knowing that she was prepared and readyto be with her Lord and Savior. Well done good and faith servant. Rest in eternal peace, our sweet one, until we meet again, we will always love you and hold you close in our hearts.

Funeral Service : Friday August 14 at 12:00 Christian Outreach of the Piedmont , Statesville,NC. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. Family will recieve friends at 11:00 a.m.on Friday prior to service all other times at home.
