Melvin Ingram Obituary

Melvin Jay Ingram 72, of Charlotte departed his Earthly life on Tuesday January 9,2024 at Atrium Health Pineville, NC after a lengthy illness, Mr. Ingram was born to the late Fred Ingram and Gladys Patteron Ingram in Rowan County on February 20,1951.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents , his aunt & uncle, Marie & Lawrence T. Moser who raised him. Also, sisters, Earlene Patterson, Sara Evans; brother, Fred Ingram; nieces, Valeria, Sharon & Lois Patterson; nephews: Eugene Patterson, Jr.; Calvin & Melvin Patterson; 1st cousin, Marilyn Moser and so many more.

Melvin was very smart in high school. As a result, he received a four year college scholarship to Trenton State University, Trenton, NJ (name changed to College of New Jersey) he attended Shady Grove Baptist in his younger years.

 He worked as a Social Worker supervisor for the State of New Jersey. In addition, he made the highest civil service test score in the entire state during that time.

He is survived by his children-Melvin J Ingram Jr. and Detrick M. Ingram Sr.(Vanessa),Grandchildren- Madison Ingram and Detrick M Ingram Jr., brother Franklin Ingram of Detroit, MI, sister Margaret C. Ingram-Jones, Spencer, NC, extended Family (1st cousins):Joyce Moser Sims,Vanessa Moser Heggins (Arthur),special nieces: Sonetta Ingram Murrell, Francetta Ingram Johnson, Margie Patterson ,Pam Patterson Thompson,Annette Ingram,special nephew: Marcellus Patterson, a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday January 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Rowan Funeral Services Chapel burial will follow in Byers Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 4:00- 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 30 minutes prior to service and other times at the home of his sister Margaret C. Ingram-Jones.
